B.K.S. Iyengar is one of the foremost teachers of Yoga in the world and has been practicing and teaching for over sixty years. He has written many books on yogic practice and its philosophy including Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama, and Light on Life.
The Iyengar method can be described as skillful action. It emphasizes a balance between strength, flexibility and endurance. The method of study is orderly and progressive. It utilizes precision of movement and attention to subtle aspects of posture (asana) and breath (pranayama).
The method has a rich diversity of postures, many of which are accessed through the use of props. Mr. Iyengar pioneered the use of simple tools such as blocks, mats and straps as well as more complex inventions such as backbenders and boxes designed for specific purposes.
